Had a guest speaker today to talk about many issues. Ramsay Taum starts the lecture talking about how Hawaiians who have lived here in Hawaii has lived a sustainable way of living up until the growth of our industry has affected it. He talks about looking into our pasts and building upon it in our futures. "We have created many challenges in our lives and we are to live with them and adopt to it." Further explains how many schools have been instilled with multiple sources of training of labor and opportunity in their curriculum to achieving a sustainable environment (in wind, water, waste water treatment, energy consumption) to have a cleaner industry and even healthier lives. However their are no people around to find the success rate of the pre and post of these multiple programs available. That is why he is here to spread his ideas and hopefully have us be interested in it, to promote a cleaner way of living, to find ways of recycling!
I would not want to see a world filled with filth and garbage. I am glad that he is pushing for a cleaner Hawaii. Promoting sustainable ideas in high schools is a great idea. It gives an opportunity to spread these ideas to a younger generation.
if our resources drops, we wouldnt want to rely on outside resources...who would we turn to if those sources can't support us anymore
Tane Inciong talks about spiritual connections. He mentions that there is a spiritual connection with the people in our lives as well as with many other things. He has us understand about many hawaiian names as he goes along such as Pono (balance), ma'i, Hapai, Kolohe (rascal). "we have a spiritual entity that will be passed down to become our child's name....throughout our lives we are known to entitle many names (dad, grandfather, brett) we have different names from the many different peoples in our lives and that brings forth that spiritual connection". He has us understand that our culture may have some similarity to hawaiin culture, we just may not know it. "you have a spiritual connection here in the islands" i agree with Tane here becuase i myself have a feeling of weary whenever i leave the islands. For some reason i feel a bit bummed. With that being said, I would beleive i myself have established a spiritual connection here with the the islands. There is no place like home.
